Awesome! Know the basics first!
People say, know the basics first! So let’s discuss the basics of SEO today. The primary or 1st step of search engine optimization is keyword research and analysis. You need to research a keyword on which you need to focus on. The keyword could be short or long-tailed Keywords.
What do long-tailed keywords mean?
The long tail keyword is not just several words put into the search query; it should also have search volume. This “long-tailed” keyword searches for a good Google ranking.
Most people search in Google with specific words or phrases that people are looking to find. Less number of words is competitive, so the actual intention of searching does not meet. While you search with an extended-phrase with more number words, the significantly less similar query comes from the short terms.
So, it helps in getting Google ranking easier. Thus this “long-tailed keyword” concept came into the picture.
So, it is a general practice of an SEO expert to use a long-tailed keyword to focus. And bring the targeted visitor to your website to the specific intention.
Search demand graph shows below:
But people have a misconception about it. They think long-tailed means to add more words to a phrase. They don’t have any idea about the search volume. Long-tailed keywords usually have less search volume. That makes it less competitive while ranking.
See it closely at the search demand curve.
According to the search demand curve shown, as per the data found, 70% of all searches online are long-tailed keywords. 30% of searches were performed with the popular search term that most businesses mistakenly targeted.
Example of long-tailed keywords:
To illustrate this concept further, we looked into “school bag” and the following five related search queries:
2. Schoolbag for girls
3. Schoolbag for boys
4. Sports bag
Correlate to search volume
If you think several words directly correlate to search volume, then the above list is the order. But if we appropriately analyze each of these keywords and the mentioned search volume, then the list would be highest to lowest as mentioned:
From these findings, we can easily understand that the short and long-tailed keywords are constantly splitting. So, it can be said that long-tailed keywords are not synonymous but rather depends on the search volume it produces.
In conclusion, to construct a positive/profitable SEO strategy for your business, you need to focus on 70-80 per cent of long-tailed keywords of the search analysis graph.
Example: Gain weight
See this example below; it shows that an increase in the number of words of a search query does not always increase the search volume.
So, we can say that short phrases like two words search generate low search volume than the larger string of keywords. So it is explained from this chart that many words do not define the long-tailed keyword/ phrase.
Likewise, one more example is mentioned here: multiple-word phrases with high monthly search volume.
So we can say that the keyword with 3 or 4 words shows more search volume. The main thing to understand from all these examples is keyword popularity is not dependent on the number of terms used in the search query.
Now it is clear how to search for a focus keyword for your business. Which keyword would be beneficial for you?
